Hydropolis, Dubai - "Underwater Resort"

Featured Freshotel of the Month: April 2009

DESCRIPTION:

The world's first luxury underwater hotel shaped like a jellyfish “Hydropolis” is currently under construction in Dubai. It will include three areas: the land station, where guests will be welcomed, the connecting tunnel, which will transport people by underwater train to the main area of the underwater hotel. The 220 underwater suites will be bubble-shaped, with clear glass roofs comprising both the sleeping area walls and the bathtubs. It is one of the largest contemporary construction projects in the world, covering an area of 260 hectares, about the size of London's Hyde Park.
The building cost of Hydropolis is $550 million, the luxury resort is being built on the Persian Gulf floor 20 meters below the surface just off the Jumeirah Beach coastline.
The Resort is designed and built in Germany, it will be taken apart, moved to the waters off Dubai, and then rebuilt underwater into two parts: one part on the sea ground, and the other floating in the sea. The Resort is due to open in 2009/2010
